Two tornadoes hit Yemen: 26 victims, thousands need assistance
Two tornadoes, named Chapala and Megh, have hit Yemen killing a total of 26 people. This was announced by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. In addition to the victims on the mainland, the cyclones also hit the island of Socotra, where they killed 18 people.
As announced by UN spokesman Stephen Dujjaric, the WFP is distributing protein biscuits to about 25,000 people in Yemen. In addition, UNHCR and its partners are taking care of people in the province of Shabwah (about 2,700 of them are in need of assistance), and 2,500 people in the province of Hadramaut. Dujarric explained, however, that as of now humanitarian aids are able to respond only to some of the needs of the population.
