"Flash" is the name of the project born by the cooperation between Inea and the Ministry of Environment. It is applicable to the so-called "Water Bombs".

 

Brazil chooses an Italian project to fight floods
The state of Rio de Janeiro has chosen an Italian project to fight the floods. It's the Flash project  (Flood and Landslide Hazard Forecasting, warning and response system), born by the cooperation between INEA and the Italian Ministry for the Environment. According to the ANSA press agency, the project is applicable to the so-called "water bombs", an atmospheric phenomenon very well-known in tropical countries like Brazil. It is equipped by a forecasting structure, alarms and answers connected with television nets, Web and social networks to inform people about possible floods and to lead the Civil Protection rescue squads. 
 
The project will keep going for about two years (26 months) and will develop forecasting numerical and almost real-time models about floods and landslides. It will allow to point out the potential inundation areas related to the event and the ones more liable to landslips, provide informations to carry out structural actions to prevent and  to protect by hydrogeological risk.
 
The project partner production companies are Telespazio and SGI- Studio Galli Ingegneria and other Institutional Brazilian Public Companies, such as the Civil Protection Department of Rio de Janeiro State, the municipality of Itaperuna, the Geological National Service of Rio de Janeiro State and several Universities.
